Duration: 8 Months
The walkway that connects Baluarte de Sta. Barbara and Baluarte de San Miguel in Fort Santiago inIntramuros was one of the early projects of Escuela Taller. The damaged and deteriorated rampart walls were repaired using traditional materials and construction techniques by the first batch ofstudents in 2010.
For about eight months of the project, masonry students learned to fashion adobe stones (volcanic tuff ) manually to restore the original form of the walls especially the embrasures where guns and cannons would have been fired from. Skills of the electrical workshop students were put to the test when wall-mounted LED lights were installed along the low, inner sides of the walls flanking the walkway.
The restoration of the walkway that connects the two bastions was the first contribution of Escuela Taller to the overall conservation of Fort Santiago led by the Intramuros Administration.
